Grant Requirements:
The goal of the MNACEP Resident Research Grant is to facilitate the academic growth and research expertise of emergency medicine residents and to promote research in emergency medicine. The results of the research project should apply to the everyday practice of emergency medicine.
Budget Allocation:
$3,000 per year, one grant application cycle per year, with the funding being divided amongst submissions as needed. The number of awards granted will depend on the number and quality of proposals submitted. The minimum award will be $1,000.
Grant Timeline:
- Applications will be accepted February 1-March 31
- Decisions will be made by the committee with notifications sent to applicants by April 1
Eligibility:
The grant is available to any resident in good standing in a Minnesota ACGME- or AOA-approved Emergency Medicine Program who is a member of MNACEP. Residents must have a faculty preceptor who can ensure the project is completed as planned. The faculty preceptor need not be within the Department of Emergency Medicine, but should have appropriate research experience. The research project should be designed to generate new knowledge about the practice of Emergency Medicine.
No funds will be available for investigator salary support, travel, or publication. The MNACEP does not include funds for indirect costs associated with the grants it awards.
The applicant should demonstrate that he/she will have dedicated time available to complete the project described. Furthermore, evidence that the project will be successfully completed at his/her institution should be provided.
A letter of support and the current Curriculum Vitae of the faculty preceptor(s) will be required. The applicant and the institution must certify that research involving humans has been approved by the Institutional Review Board before award funds are distributed. Research involving animals must be approved by the Institutional Animal Review Committee and conform to the Principles for the Use of Animals in Research and Education approved by the Council of the American Physiological Society.
The Residency Program must commit to providing travel funds for the resident upon completion of the grant to the Minnesota ACEP EM Summit in order to present their research findings.
