Throughout the summer months, the Policy and Advocacy Task Force have been diligently working to create resources that will help educate our members about the legislative process. One of these initiatives is the Advocacy Alert system, and we need your assistance to make it effective. During the Legislative Session, we may require support from our members to contact their legislators quickly. Our advocacy alert system will allow us to notify you via email, and we have implemented an SMS system for even quicker communication.

To ensure you are included in this important initiative, we ask you to provide MNACEP with your cell phone number. This will enable us to send you advocacy alerts via text messaging when your assistance is urgently needed. Rest assured, we will only contact you when necessary, and your phone number will remain confidential; we will not share it with anyone.

  • Lobbying for legislative action to correct the flawed formula used by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to set physician Medicare payment rates
  • Informed media of CMS action and its consequences
  • Provided information to Senate leaders
  • Brought together a coalition of hospital and physician groups to lobby against directive
  • ACEP Board members agreed not to provide expert witness testimony
  • Promoting ACEP policy on expert witness qualifications
  • Developing policy paper with The Joint Commission organizations
  • Co-sponsoring symposium with The Joint Commission seeking solutions
  • Issued joint advisory with the American Hospital Association detailing immediate strategies to help ease overcrowding
  • Initiated series of meetings in Washington, DC with The Joint Commission, AMA, and the American Public Health Association to develop strategies
  • Successful lobbying effort  to insure auto no fault remains a payer of EM services in MN

MNACEP Members: Advocacy is one of the many main focus areas for MNACEP, and our advocacy efforts include a political action committee, the Minnesota Emergency Physician Action Committee (MEPAC).

The changing environment of healthcare and legislation affecting emergency medicine has made it essential that our voice be heard by Minnesota legislators.

The purpose of the non-partisan MEPAC is to aid emergency physicians in the quality care of patients through our legislative work.
