Annual Awards for MNACEP Members

MNACEP recognizes two physicians and one resident each year during the Emergency Medicine Summit. Nominations are accepted for these awards in January of every year, with the winners being selected and notified in February.

Nomination Requirements:

All nominees must be MNACEP members. All nominations must include the information below to be considered for the award.

  • Nominee’s CV (If a curriculum vitae is unavailable for the applicant, we will accept a summarized work history in a document.)
  • At least one Letter of Support. Letters must describe the contributions made by nominee to emergency medicine and/or to MNACEP
  • Completed nomination form
  • Additional materials may be provided to support the nomination.

The support letters should be no more than two pages in length and should be written by individuals who are knowledgeable about the nominee’s accomplishments. Letters of support should avoid repeating information in the candidate’s CV. They should, instead, focus on providing information about the lifetime of role-modeling this person has demonstrated; their contributions to emergency medicine; and/or their dedication to MNACEP.

All nomination materials must be submitted electronically by the nominator by midnight on January 31. If you are unable to attach the supporting documents to the nomination form, please email them to exec@mnacep.org.

Minnesota ACEP Emergency Medicine Physician of the Year award


This award is presented each year to one physician member of the Minnesota Chapter, American College of Emergency Physicians, who best exemplifies the spirit, skill, and dedication of Minnesota’s emergency physicians. Board members are not eligible for the award.

  • Compassionate patient care with high levels of patient satisfaction.
  • Community service.
  • Promotes teamwork, communication, and a positive Emergency Department culture with nurses, EMTs, and ancillary hospital staff.
  • Advancement of emergency medicine through involvement in hospital activities or organized medicine.
  • Policy engagement on a state or national level.
  • Mentorship, including commitment to teaching and developing others.
  • Contributes to research, publications, or scholarly projects advancing EM

Please provide any background information that may be beneficial to the nominee (limit of 500 words). The attributes listed above will be used in the selection process.

MNACEP Emergency Medicine Lifetime Achievement Award

This award seeks to recognize a member of the emergency medicine profession who has devoted his or her professional life to the improvement of the field.

  • Practicing or retired emergency physicians who are current members of MNACEP.
  • Have had an active role in MNACEP during their career. Board activity is not a requirement.
  • Must have practiced emergency medicine for at least 25 years.

Applicants should have demonstrated achievements in at least one of the areas listed below, but may have achievements in several areas.

  • Excellence in Clinical Practice:
  • Sustained record of outstanding patient care, professionalism, and clinical skill
  • Recognized by peers for clinical expertise and compassionate care
  • Leadership and Vision:
  • Held leadership roles (e.g., department chair, medical director, society officer) that advanced emergency medicine;
  • Influenced institutional policy, systems of care, or emergency preparedness;
  • Advocated for the specialty at local, state, national, or international levels.
  • Service to the Community and Profession:
  • Made meaningful contributions to public health, disaster response, or humanitarian work;
  • Served in leadership or volunteer roles in professional organizations;
  • Demonstrated advocacy for patients and for the evolution of emergency medicine as a specialty.

This award is presented each year to one resident member of the Minnesota Chapter, American College of Emergency Physicians who best exemplifies the spirit, skill, and dedication of America’s emergency physicians.

  • One resident will be selected each year based on the criteria below.
  • Compassionate patient care with high levels of patient satisfaction.
    Community service.
  • Promotes teamwork, communication, and a positive Emergency Department culture with nurses, EMTs, and ancillary hospital staff.
  • Leadership.
  • Advancement of emergency medicine through teaching, research, involvement in hospital activities or organized medicine.
