Pediatric Wound Care and Suturing Basics offers both lecture and skills-based learning opportunities for attendees in order to learn more about suturing techniques, considerations for laceration repair in pediatric patients, the use sedation and other adjuncts in wound management, and other knowledge and skills related to acute wound management. This course consists of video presentations followed by learning checks.

We offer an optional proctored skills workshop which participants may sign up for.

The optional workshops will be held in the 2nd Floor Education Center on the Minneapolis Children’s Hospital Campus.

Completion of the online modules is a prerequisite to attend the workshop.

Workshop dates for 2025 are:

• April 30, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
• October 21, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Learning Objectives

• Discuss the management of various types of wounds: including the appropriate wound closure technique, selection of suture/wound closure material, cleaning, and preparation of the wound for closure.
• Demonstrate the ability to select the appropriate instruments and suture material to perform various types of suture techniques.
• Demonstrate the techniques used for tissue undermining, the corrections of simple tissue deficits, and the application of wound adhesive.
